Prime Minister launches Online Tax Payment System

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina launched the first-ever e-payment of tax in an effort to help people pay tax without hassle and at any time from anywhere.

The PM inaugurated the e-payment system in the city by paying an advance income tax amounting to Tk 200,000 for fiscal year (FY) 2012-13.

From now on, people will be able to pay income tax, Value Added Tax (VAT) and customs duty online through 26 private commercial banks with support from Sonali Bank. Even expatriate Bangladeshis can avail the service in a specific portal of the system.

People can pay online tax by clicking in www.nbrepayment.org. Four types of users can avail the service- the taxpayer himself/herself, his/her legal representative, authorities who deduct tax at source and other persons. Travel tax or gift tax can also be paid through the service.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) arranged the launching program of ‘NBR-Sonali Bank e-payment system’ at city’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) May 26, 2012 (Saturday).

NBR is proud to confirm that the entire initiative including the analysis, design, development and testing was successfully implemented entirely by Bangladeshi professionals. In addition to the domain experts of NBR, two Bangladeshi renowned IT companies DataSoft Systems Ltd. and TechnoVista Limited worked together to develop the required applications including the middleware in order to implement the system.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank group actively supported the initiative all throughout.
